Am I allowed to enter Germany?
From Saturday, 11 June 2022, 12pm/0.00h CET, all COVID-19-related restrictions for entry into Germany will preliminarily be lifted. From that date, travel from Australia to Germany will be permitted for all travel purposes (including tourism and visits).
For travellers entering from Australia (no prior stay in an area of variant of concern) no special requirements apply on entry. In particular, neither registration nor a negative test result or proof of vaccination are necessary.
Please also check with your airline for possible additional transport conditions.
Do I need a negative Covid-19 test for entry into Germany?
Please see above under “Am I allowed to enter Germany?” for further information.
Do I need to register and quarantine?
There is no obligation to register before entry into Germany.
An obligation to quarantine (“obligation to self-isolate”) upon entry into Germany or a “ban on carriage” still only applies for regions classified as an area of variants of concern, in which a variant of particular concern already exists.
Australia is not an area of variants of concern.
Restrictions on public life in Germany
The Federal and Länder Governments have agreed to gradually ease restrictions. You will find the current rules at a glance on the website of the Federal Government (German only).
Links to websites of the different Bundesländer can be found on the website “Zusammen gegen Corona”
The German diplomatic and consular missions abroad cannot take any responsibility or provide any guidance in this regard.
Can I convert my Australian international vaccination certificate into an EU digital vaccination certificate?
The purpose of the EU Digital COVID certificate is to help facilitate free movement and travel within the EU for both EU citizens and non-EU nationals already in the EU.
At the moment there is no formal process in place for converting vaccination certificates from abroad into EU digital certificates.
So far, several non-EU countries joined the EU Digital COVID Certificate System. Australia is not part of these countries.
Once you are in Germany, you can ask a GP or pharmacy for assistance in converting the Australian international COVID certificate. However, as there is no obligation for these institutions to do so and there might be technical difficutlies as well, there is no guarantee that a conversion is at all possible.
The Australian international vaccination certificate is valid for entry into Germany.
