Lecture Tour with German director Stefan Weinert

In commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Fall of the Wall

12-17 September 2019

The German Missions in Australia, together with ifa Institute, are pleased to welcome German actor and documentary filmmaker Stefan Weinert in September 2019 for a lecture tour around Australia on the occasion of commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Fall of the Wall on 9 November 2019.

In his work as a writer, producer and director, Stefan Weinert is especially interested in German post-war history and has released two documentary films (“Face to the Wall” in 2009 and “The Family” in 2013) about the victims of the dictatorship in the former communist German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the repression experienced at the hands of the regime’s State Security Service (Stasi). It is estimated that the GDR regime imprisoned 72,000 citizens for escape attempts and 250,000 for political dissent during the 40 years of its existence. The Family won the Cinema for Peace Award in 2014 and received nominations for best documentary feature at the film festivals in Sao Paulo and Zurich in 2013.

Cologne-born Stefan Weinert is also internationally known for his work as a film and theatre actor alongside stars such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Tom Hardy, Tony Todd, Val Kilmer, Tim Roth and Catherine Deneuve.

Stefan Weinert will visit Adelaide on 12 September, Melbourne on 16 September and Brisbane on 17 September 2019 to present in a series of lectures about his documentary work; including excerpts from the films and discussions with the audience. Times and exact venues will be announced shortly.

This Lecture Programme is supported by the German Federal Government and organised by ifa Institute and the German Embassy in Australia; in partnership with respective Honorary Consultates. The Lecture Programme facilitates exchange with distinguished German personalities from culture and science; politics and economics.
