Restoration of German citizenship for former Germans deprived of their citizenship and their descendants

Former German citizens, who were deprived of their citizenship on political, racial, or religious grounds between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945, may upon request be naturalized according to Article 116 II of the German Basic Law (“Grundgesetz”). This generally also applies to their legal descendants. Further information can be found below.

Persons and their descendants who, in connection with National Socialist persecution on the above-mentioned grounds, did not lose their German citizenship because they were deprived of it, but lost it for other reasons or were never able to acquire it, might be eligible for naturalization pursuant to section 15 of the German Nationality Act. Please find further information in the second section.
