Former German citizens, who were deprived of their citizenship on political, racial, or religious grounds between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945, may upon request be naturalized according to Article 116 II of the German Basic Law (“Grundgesetz”). This generally also applies to their legal descendants. Further information can be found below.
Descendants who do not qualify for the above possibility because their ancestors lost their citizenship before they could be deprived, might qualify for naturalization under § 14 of the German Citizenship in accordance to a decree by the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Information on this application process can be found in the second section.
