Welcome
EU Blue Card
General information
The EU Blue Card is aimed at highly qualified candidates, i.e. non-EU nationals holding a German or otherwise recognised equivalent university degree.
Since 1 August 2012, foreign nationals with a recognised university degree have easier access to the labour market under the EU Blue Card system. To obtain the Blue Card, they must simply provide proof of their qualifications and a concrete job offer that would provide annual gross earnings of at least 48,300 EUR.
In the case of highly qualified foreign nationals with a background in mathematics, IT, the natural sciences or technology as well as medical doctors, the EU Blue Card conditions still apply, provided they are offered the same salaries as comparable German employees and their annual gross earnings would be at least 43,759.80 EUR. In these cases the approval of the Federal Employment Agency is required.

Australian citizens as well as citizens of Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States of America can apply for a residence permit after entering Germany at the local immigration authority, without applying for a visa beforehand. Please note that until the work permit has been issued you will not be able to work yet.
If you want to start working immediately after your arrival in Germany, you should apply for a visa about 8-10 weeks prior to the intended departure.
Application via the Online Portal
Residents of any states and territories of Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu or Nauru can now submit applications for EU Blue Cards online.
You can simply apply for the visa online via the Online Portal of the Federal Foreign Office. Once you have uploaded the application and documents, your details and documents will be checked for completeness and any questions will be clarified with you directly via the portal.
