Are you an Early Career Researcher in Australia who has made a standout contribution to the German-Australian partnership? Have you conducted or benefitted from research in both countries? Have you contributed to initiatives at the intersection of our countries? Are you excited about the potential and activities of the Australian-German Research Network -AGRN?

Here is your chance to shine and win!

We are looking for this year’s Early Career Research Ambassador, a scientist within 7 years of PhD completion who has demonstrated applaudable achievements at the nexus of German-Australian research partnerships.

If that sounds like you, we very much look forward to hearing from you and celebrating your achievements. Please pitch your research and how it is embedded in the German-Australian research landscape in 500 words or less, list up to three of your recent (since 2023) publications, and a testimonial from your scientific supervisor.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with a financial contribution of AUD 2,000 kindly provided by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and be acknowledged at one of the upcoming 2026 Science & Innovation Days (germanweeks.com.au). There will also be an opportunity to meet the German Ambassador and to become a valued stakeholder within the AGRN.

APPLICATION DEADLINE by 30 June 2026

The selection panel consists of multi-disciplinary German-Australian academics.

  • Open to early-career professionals of all disciplines.
  • You received your PhD or equivalent qualification no more than 7 years ago.
  • You have finished your studies in Germany or have co-authored with German research institutions.
  • Applications must be submitted in English within the deadline mentioned above.
  • Submitting multiple applications is not permitted.
  • Travel & accommodation costs will not be covered.
  • The winner will be chosen by the selection panel mentioned above and will be notified by 31 August 2026.
  • By submitting your application, you agree to the publication of your full name and hand-over pictures in the event of a win.
  • When participating, we process the data and information you provide (full data protection information can be found here).
  • Legal recourse is excluded with regard to the selection of the winners and the possible judgement of the submitted applications.
