The Labour Market and Social Affairs Section
Germany – like many other OECD countries - has an ageing population. This entails new political and societal challenges, with regard to the labour market, the health care system, aged care, social security, immigration, primary and secondary education, vocational and higher education, infrastructure and housing. In some aspects, the challenges in Australia are comparable.
The labour market and social affairs section deals with the German-Australian relationship in the areas of labour market, health and social policies, both bilaterally as well as in European contexts. It monitors the Australian system and its answers to the challenges above. Furthermore, the section works with Australian governments, unions, employers´ federations, educational and research institutions and others and informs about political developments in Germany.
