The Embassy's political section observes Australian foreign and domestic policy, based on contacts with the Australian Government at national, state and local level, Parliament and non-governmental institutions.

In addition, the section is responsible for matters pertaining to the islands assigned to its jurisdiction: Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Nauru.

Political officers inform Australian partners and organisations about political developments within Germany and its foreign and European policy.

Their overarching task is to strengthen the bilateral relations in the political area.
