The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Australia represents German interests in Australia and several Pacific Island States. As such, it offers an attractive and unique workplace for its employees in the diplomatic suburb of Yarralumla, ACT.
The Embassy is currently seeking to fill a full-time position (38 hours per week) for a Team Assistant in the areas of Press/Public Diplomacy/Social Media and Culture starting in January 2025.

The main job tasks of this position are:
Press/Public Diplomacy/Social Media:
- Plan, create and manage content for social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, X)
- Independently prepare daily press reviews and media monitors on specific topics
- Create, edit and caption short videos and posters (using Canva)
- Administer and manage our website using a Content Management System (CMS)
- Draft and distribute press releases and newsletters
- Maintain our journalist and culture contact database
Culture
- Plan, organize and implement in-house and outside events (e.g. obtaining quotes, reservations, assisting with set-up/dismantling, admission control, guest support)
- Assist in the promotion of “German as a Foreign Language” including participation in meetings and events, administration of awards and scholarship programmes
- Manage and distribute information materials and giveaways
- Assist in other office duties (e.g. administrative tasks) as needed
Qualifications and skills required for this position:
- Good knowledge of both English and German (speaking and writing)
- Previous experience with social media content creation and management; event management and administrative tasks is highly desirable
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a team, flexibility and good organizational skills
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Social Media applications
- Sound knowledge of politics, media, culture and society in Germany and Australia
Candidates who are not Australian citizens must already have a valid Australian visa with work permit, sponsorship by the Embassy is not possible.
After a successful selection process, a medical examination by the Embassy's cooperating physician and the Health Division of the Federal Foreign Office is required as proof of health suitability prior to employment. Your cooperation will be expected.
The appointment will initially be on the basis of a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension.
The work contract is based on local law and will be as per the standard contract terms of the German missions in Australia. The salary is based on the salary scheme for locally employed staff of the German missions in Australia. It is comparable to level 4-1 in the APS.
